Sweden

Viking heritage, pristine wilderness, and design-forward cities in the heart of Scandinavia

Discover Sweden

Sweden is a nation of remarkable contrasts — a design-obsessed modern society rooted in ancient Viking traditions, where sleek Scandinavian minimalism sits alongside vast wilderness of forests, lakes, and Arctic tundra. Stockholm, built across 14 islands where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea, is one of Europe's most beautiful capital cities.

From the reindeer herding Sami people of Lapland to the sun-drenched West Coast islands, from medieval Visby on Gotland to the cosmopolitan buzz of Malmö, Sweden rewards slow, curious exploration at every latitude.

Stockholm Gamla Stan

Stockholm – Venice of the North

Explore Gamla Stan (Old Town) with its colourful medieval streets, visit the Vasa Museum housing a perfectly preserved 17th-century warship, and take a boat tour through the city's archipelago of 30,000 islands.

Swedish Lapland

Swedish Lapland – Arctic Wonder

Home to the original Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi (rebuilt every winter), reindeer sleigh rides, the midnight sun, and the Northern Lights. The Sami culture adds deep indigenous heritage to this Arctic landscape.

Gotland Visby

Gotland & Visby – Island Time Capsule

Sweden's largest island shelters the UNESCO-listed medieval walled city of Visby with its remarkable preserved ring wall. In summer, Gotland transforms into a sun-drenched holiday island of unique limestone sea stacks (raukar).

Gothenburg

Gothenburg – Sweden's Second City

A lively port city with a brilliant food scene, the Liseberg amusement park, and the Universeum science museum. The Southern Archipelago (Södra Skärgården) offers island-hopping by passenger ferry.

Dalarna

Dalarna – The Heart of Sweden

The spiritual heartland of Sweden, Dalarna is famous for its red painted cottages, the Dala horse craft tradition, and midsummer celebrations around maypoles. Lake Siljan is surrounded by picture-perfect villages.

Abisko National Park

Abisko National Park

Located above the Arctic Circle, Abisko offers some of Scandinavia's finest hiking along the Kungsleden (King's Trail). It also has one of Europe's clearest Northern Lights viewing conditions from the famous Aurora Sky Station.

Travel Tips for Sweden

Best Time to Visit

June–August for long sunny days, archipelago swimming, and festivals. December–March for Northern Lights in Lapland and Icehotel experiences. Stockholm is beautiful year-round.

Allemansrätten

Sweden's unique "Right of Public Access" (Allemansrätten) means you can hike, camp, and forage almost anywhere in nature for free — even on private land. A wonderful Swedish freedom to embrace.

Local Cuisine

Enjoy Swedish meatballs (köttbullar) with lingonberry sauce, gravlax (cured salmon), surströmming (fermented herring — an acquired taste!), cinnamon buns (kanelbullar), and the ubiquitous fika coffee-and-cake ritual.

Getting Around

Sweden has excellent rail connections (SJ trains). The SL card covers Stockholm's metro, buses, and ferries. For remote Lapland areas, domestic flights to Kiruna or Gällivare are the most practical option.
